The 1000 words most essential to basic communication was the logical beginning point. Так, I would recommend 1000 Words. If for no other reason than the fact that the minimum number of words needed for basic communication have been picked out by a рідна українка.
I am mounting the poster on a card backing, to hang above my desk. Much easier than looking through books – I can concentrate on one letter per day. Then I look for words using the letters I have memorized, to practice writing/speaking them. Keep up the good work!

The 1000 word book I purchased is helping me a lot. The examples are very good and just what I needed to help me retain the words and provide some context to their use. Also, the example sentences are short enough to actually say for a new speaker which I find very important.
