reading-the-book1

I stumbled across your Ukrainian podcasts on Spotify and the app Mondly. I especially enjoyed the podcasts, with your relaxed and upbeat explanation of simple sayings in Ukrainian.

When the book arrived I immediately started reading it. After all the hours I spent on learning words and listening to podcasts I had the feeling I would easily pick that up. But no. Reading a ‘real’ book is indeed something completely different than translating simple sentences and words. Once I got the book and lost an illusion that I would be able to read it, I pushed through with AnkiDroid to expand my vocabulary first, so I don’t need to lookup every word. The book is ‘paused’ through the week, but I spend 1-2 hours in the weekends on it, to not forget about the adventure.

I have mainly read the book, but a few weeks ago I have also listened to the audio files up until where I am in the book right now. Exercises I have tried, but because of my limited knowledge, understanding the exercises takes a lot of time. Some English hints would help.

The enormous number of new words and expressions — this is way more than AnkiDroid, Mondly and DuoLingo combined. I am accepting that I cannot remember all the words, but trust that they will sink in when I get in contact with them often enough.
